Research Interests: policy analysis, environmental policy, role of science in policymaking

John Hird is Professor and Chair of Political Science at Umass Amherst. His research interests include policy expertise and advising, the use of information in policymaking, policy analysis, and environmental policy. He is the author of Power, Knowledge, and Politics: Policy Analysis in the States (Georgetown University Press, 2005) and Controversies in American Public Policy (St. Martin's Press, 1994 & 1999; Wadsworth, 2004).
